Five Minute Friday - Welcome

We have once again made it to Friday, which means that it's FIVE MINUTE FRIDAY!!!!

The rules? Write for 5 minutes without stopping to edit or fix anything.

The topic? Welcome!

Ready? Set? GO!

They are there...

Lurking...

Behind the door...

On the sofa...

In the driveway....

Or in the yard.

They come running when they see you...

A full tilt run...

Their little legs pumping...

Their little faces smiling.

They are little and warm...

And slightly sticky.

They're sweaty and they smell of grapes and peanut butter and apples

And dirt.

They leave little handprints...

On your work pants

When they ram into your legs

And hug them silly.

Sticky little spots to remind you of their love

Long after they are in bed.

They are cherubic

And mischievious

And lovely

And who could ask

At the end of the day

For a better

Welcome!

Ding! Let's see what we have now!

I LOVE how this is written!
I could imagine little faces and the sticky hands and bodies. Welcome home hugs (or goodbye hugs) from little ones are the BEST!

The things they say...

Jesse: Mommy, Daddy told me not to do it anymore.

Me: Do what, Jesse?

Jesse: Poop in the cat pan.

Gabriel: Look what I made for you, Mom! And you wanna know what I made it with? Love!

Jo: Mom, when Izzy goes to college, can we adopt another kid. You know, not to take Izzy's place but...well, you know, so we can have another Izzy?

Gabriel: Ok, Hazel. You don't know much about pirates, but my pj's have pirates on them, so let me tell you...

Jesse: Babriel!....Babriel!...Babriel!

Gabriel, finally, exasperated: What?!?!

Jesse: Meow!

Gabriel: Hey Mom! I got a Frisbee! Now I can frizz!

Jo: There was an odd number of M&M's so I couldn't share evenly with Gabriel, so I ate one and then it was even.

Gabriel: When is baby Hazel coming home to play with me?

Jo: Giants are big and rude.

Gabriel: Then I'm a giant 'cuz I'm rude!

Jesse: UH-OH!

Gabriel: Hazel Grace is not in the doctors. BABY Hazel is in the doctors because Hazel Grace would be too big to fit in the little bed where Baby Hazel sleeps.

Me, after Jo got up from her nap after an incredibly hard morning: You know, Jo, you are much more pleasant to be around when you are well rested and not being painful.

Jo: Yeah, I know! I enjoy myself a lot more, too!

Gabriel got in trouble today for not putting his bike away when he was asked. After prayer at bedtime, he looks at me and says: Mom, can you tell Jesus that I will put my bike away when I want to and then I'll be good.

Jo: Mom, I want to have a family movie night tonight. I know that Izzy's not here, but we can just call it a 'Forgot Elizabeth Family Movie Night' instead.

Gabriel and Jo, singing: Get up, get up, get out of my head. Fall into these arms, Stan, Stan...

Jo: You can use my blanket if you're cold, Mom. It's filled with love.

Gabriel: I told you not to cut that fingernail, Mommy! Now I can't pick my nose!

Jo: Sometimes in math it's hard so you have to use your fingers. Otherwise you can just use your brain.

Me: Hey, guys! It's going to be so much fun to grow the garden together this year! What do you want to plant?

Jo: Pickles.

Gabriel: Macaroni and Cheese.

Me: Gabriel, where are your stickers?

Gabriel: On baby Jesse's head.

Jo: I don't know the answer to that question. That means I can't say 'yes' or 'no' because if I am wrong, then I would be lying and that's bad. I am going to say 'I don't know' because that's just 'I don't know-ing' and that's ok.

Gabriel: Mom, I can't get my sock on my stinky little foot!

Elizabeth: Mom, I am going to be a sculptor when I grow up. And I am going to use my Kung Fu to sculpt stuff.

Me: Um. Ok.

Elizabeth: MOM! You're not listening!

Me: Yes, I am, you said you are going to sculpt and use Kung Fu to do it. I just assumed you weren't being serious enough to warrant a full response to that idea.

Elizabeth: Well, I wasn't, but still!

Me: Jesse, sing a song!

Jesse: Bababa... (for Barbara Ann)

Gabriel: MOM! Jesse's pushing me! Can I just push him back?

Jo: Well, then. That does appear to be a problem!

Me: My head hurts. I am going to take some Tylenol.

Gabriel: If your head hurts, Mommy, why are you going to take it off?

Me: No, Honey, Tylenol, not take it off!

Jo: Mom, I think that every other house that we go to is really clean, it's just our house that kinda isn't.

Gabriel, shortly after 10AM (we pick Jimmy up from work at 5PM): Should we just go pick up Daddy now?

Jo (singing): Come on, come on, get out of my dreams. Fall into these arms I used to have...

Me: Gabriel, you know you are not supposed to touch the telescope. Keep your hands off unless you are with Mommy or Daddy.

Gabriel: But Mom, I wasn't touching it with my hands. I was banging it with this hammer!

Jo: Mom, when I go to college, will I have to sleep there?

Me: Most likely. It depends on where you go.

Jo: But are you coming with me?

Me: Well, no. You will be big and go all by yourself.

Jo: But then who's going to tuck me in bed? Maybe I can find a friend and take him with me and he can do it.

Jo: Mom. I don't like it when you tell me that. If I were big and a mom and I had little kids, I would not tell that to them.

Gabriel: Can I sleep with my slippers on?

Jo: I play carefully with Baby B 'cuz he's not ours to break. But Jesse's ours so I can play rougher with him.

Gabriel, to complete strangers in the library: Hi. I'm Luke. I like to crash my car.
