Hidden Pond Nature Center

It's funny that when Jimmy had his 5 days off in a row, we really didn't do anything, but when he just has a regular weekend off, we seem to get out and do something fun.

This weekend was no different.  On Saturday we went to Hidden Pond Nature Center in Springfield.  It was just a neat as I remembered it from taking the kids I used to have in my summer camp there so long ago.

First, we stopped at the playground and followed the rules to a T.

Then we went directly to the landing where Alana fell in the water when she was little and was staying with me in my summer camp.  Ahh, yes...I remember that day...

Then, we headed around the pond and leaned over to pick up sticks and poke at the duckweed frozen in the ice.  Elizabeth took the following pictures.  She says that they are funny because that is me on my tummy next to the little guys poking the water, and it should have been her since she, after all, is the child...

Then we took a walk through the woods.  And no, we did NOT get lost, even though Elizabeth insists that we did.

If you look closely in this picture, you can see that everyone is carrying a stick.  A reasonably sized stick...one that you can carry easily in your hands and poke at things when necessary.  Except for Jimmy.  Take a look at that huge thing he picked up.  That thing dragged behind him for a good 3 feet.  He says Jesse picked it, but I have my doubts.

And then, with a few pitstops, we made it back to the car and headed home.

Great day!
